Absolutely stunning work! What ever medium the portraits are painted in,wether oil or pastels, you have mastered them all!! I love the character you bring out in them. I wish I could paint this way!!
This is beautiful, this is how I want to paint, where the photo-like qualities are lost, giving way to emotion and atmosphere yet retaining the face/figure realistically (excuse my spelling) Just fantastic, found you through Art Forum, so glad!
If you would like to see all the stages of the project got to this link http://www.susanart.com/forum/index.php?topic=389.0
The link will take you to Susanart.com forum. Susan Harrison-Tustain is an International watercolour artist and very good friend, I was invited to be a guest artist on her forum. You are more than welcome to join the forum and paint Imogen.. I will critique you along the way..
This is absolutely amazing. You've captured the sweetness of Imogen. I am at a loss for any other adjectives here, except to say I aspire to do this kind of work.
THanks for the very kind comments. I'm pleased you like my painting technique. Feel free to email me anytime if you need advice on your portrait paintings..
I was born in Napier, New Zealand and served in the Royal New Zealand Navy for 20years. After I retired from the Navy I turned professional as an Archer and Archery Coach. Although I don't compete competitively anymore, I am still very involved in coaching at the Elite Level. I have coached at two Olympic Games and eight World Championships.
I used to draw and sketch when I was in my teens but never really took it too seriously until I turned 50.
I started painting in 2004 when I attended a watercolour workshop presented by Susan Harrison-Tustain and Arleta Pech. Since then I have taught my self to paint with pastel and oil.
I love the challenge of painting portraits and the adrenalin rush I get when I show the client the finished portrait is equal to any of the Gold Medals I have won. The exciting thing is I can keep on painting for many years to come.
